Stop Existing & Start Living

Surviving, barely. That’s what most of us do. We live our lives day-by-day, repeating the same old routine just to get by. We put on our favourite brave face each morning (the one that does enough to avoid any awkward ‘are you okay’ questions) and head out the door, not knowing how we’ll fare or what state we’ll be in when we return back home. The pressures of a life slowly eroding away our limited time and our false sense of security. For a large majority, our presence simply exists rather than our lives being lived to the fullest.

We all have our individual struggles, and in the age of technology, most usually spend their time looking down. Down at phones or laptops/tablets trying to get things done or pass the time, in between being in relationships or catching up with friends.

Sadly, though, the moment we lift up our heads up to view the world, we’re hit with something or someone telling us, we’re not good enough, not smart enough, not achieving enough. This in conjunction with our own internal issues and insecurities leaves most people unable to spread their wings and fly. Instead, the weariness from battling the confines of society leads to some of us to drop our heads and revert back to some form of negative thought process.

In these moments of sadness, stop and listen to the heartbeat in your chest. Pause and look at how you’ve already come in life. Appreciate your divine uniqueness. No matter what life throws at you, know that you are a person of adversity. A warrior ready to concur any and every obstacle set against you. When the world feeds you negativity, rise above and respond with greatness and great character. Smile and show off your determination and resolute mind.

When all hope seems lost, and things are at a standstill, rest in the reassurance that everything you are going through all eventually makes sense – no relationship, family, financial or failure if bigger than the greatness you have inside you. The waves of understanding and the current of happiness will soon wash away the teary nights and unwanted mornings, and the moonlit big picture will soon reveal itself.

Every single person has a contribution to make to this world. Don’t let anyone stop you from figuring out what you were created for. When you wake up each morning, say to yourself ‘I am an amazing individual who will do amazing things today’. As you go through your day, lift your head up and face the world in the acknowledgement that you are something special. And in case you haven’t heard these words today or this week, you matter and you are needed in this world.

Here are some takeaways to live more:

  1. Establish a good work/life balance to avoid becoming burnout from your job.
  2. Embrace all that life has to offer – make list of different things you’d like to experience (travel destinations, museums, galleries, restaurants, outdoor activities) and do one of them each month.
  3. Learn to live without fear and enjoy the present – let go of the past and stop worrying about the future.
  4. Get out of your comfort zone and push yourself to experience new things.
  5. Smile more often and do the positive things that make you happy.
