No matter your profession, skill, dream, passion or talent, at some point, you will come across toxic people. People who will bring you nothing but negativity to your life – intentionally or unintentionally. People who will enjoy trying to tear you down because deep down they are unhappy and/or hate themselves. So they must make everyone around them feel the same way.
These people can either be an internal force i.e. family members who love to make harsh comments (no matter the occasion) or external forces i.e. friends or work colleagues who always talk negatively about you. Whatever the case may be, these individuals will cause you a ton of problems and stress. It’s sad to say but it’s easier for these people to hate than congratulate.
The best way to deal with toxic people is to know yourself. If you know your worth, your talent and what you’re working toward, no amount of negativity can derail you from your purpose. Of course, this is easier said than done. There will be days (a lot of them) when toxic people catch you at a bad moment and you flip out or let their comments get to you. That’s all human nature. However, if you remember who you are, compose yourself and exude ultimate class, you’ll be able to defeat them without ever having to get angry.
The trick is to go beyond their destructive words and tap into your self-worth. Remind yourself that no dream killer or hater can ever stop you or the greatness destined for you. Through persistent positivity and hard work, eventually, they will stop or you will become so great that their comments, remarks and words will no longer matter to you.
Another thing to remember is that if you have people hating or being negative toward you; it means you’re doing things they can’t do. Toxic individuals are a funny type of people who see your potential/greatness but instead of embracing you, they project negativity.
If you’re dealing with toxic people in your life, here are some takeaways to help you:
- Use the negativity as inspiration to help you grow and reach your goals.
- Respond to negative comments with positivity and humility.
- Always try to remain composed and never give into their negativity – reacting to toxic words or actions only gives other people power.
- Focus on you and your journey – everything else will take care of itself.
- Never internalise negativity as it will grow like cancer and destroy you from within.
On your journey of life, acknowledge your skill, dream, passion or talent and ignore the words that don’t empower you.
